本書為第三冊，共十二個單元。每個單元的篇章結構和意圖與前兩冊基本一致。但內容的取材原則體現不同的重點：第一冊注重勾畫當代社會中的一些宏觀變化和時代特征，可以說偏重于廣視角、大題材；第二冊的內容則主要圍繞學生自身在專灶、情操與體魄等方面的健康成長面展開，可以說聚焦點是學生主體，話題比較接近生活實際，容易引起共鳴，聽課發思考；而第三冊又晚霞學生的注意力引向世界，編入了有關國際政治、經濟科技和交通等諸多領域的要聞報道和成果介紹，幫助學生增進各種知識，擴展視野。
