本書為21世紀(jì)高職高專教材，分3冊(cè)。本書內(nèi)容涵蓋基礎(chǔ)英語及中醫(yī)學(xué)專業(yè)英語。第1冊(cè)主要內(nèi)容包括人物情景對(duì)話及基礎(chǔ)英語閱讀，語法涉及的是詞性及各種時(shí)態(tài)；特點(diǎn)是注重基礎(chǔ)英語的讀寫及應(yīng)用。第2冊(cè)主要內(nèi)容包括語言文化、社會(huì)風(fēng)俗、地理風(fēng)貌、人際關(guān)系等內(nèi)容的短文閱讀，語法涉及詞性、語序、語態(tài)及從句等；特點(diǎn)是注重加強(qiáng)英語的實(shí)際應(yīng)用能力。第3冊(cè)目的是給同學(xué)們提供提高英語綜合應(yīng)用水平的機(jī)會(huì)。
本書分為10個(gè)單元，均為涉及醫(yī)學(xué)各科知識(shí)的文章。內(nèi)容包括保健護(hù)理、中醫(yī)基礎(chǔ)知識(shí)、中藥知識(shí)、針灸推拿知識(shí)、醫(yī)藥信息、常見疾病等。
每一單元包括課文a(texta)、課文b(textb)、閱讀技能三部分。課文a與b為精讀材料，內(nèi)容廣泛，語言真實(shí)、規(guī)范，并配有相關(guān)練習(xí)。因此，學(xué)習(xí)者在閱讀理解課文時(shí)，應(yīng)加強(qiáng)對(duì)課文內(nèi)容、課文結(jié)構(gòu)的理解，同時(shí)進(jìn)行詞匯的上下文猜測(cè)。課后練習(xí)針對(duì)性強(qiáng)，可以加深對(duì)原文的理解和記憶。其他實(shí)用練習(xí)則加強(qiáng)對(duì)本課相關(guān)句型、詞匯和結(jié)構(gòu)的操練和運(yùn)用。
閱讀技能這一項(xiàng)目側(cè)重各種段落類型，理解語篇中的具體信息，如根據(jù)上下文猜測(cè)詞義、理解暗示含義、推理等。每一單元后另配備四篇閱讀訓(xùn)練小短文，供學(xué)生利用所學(xué)的閱讀技巧，培養(yǎng)閱讀技能，提高閱讀速度，增強(qiáng)閱讀理解力。一般來說，每一單元的講解時(shí)間約為6學(xué)時(shí)。本冊(cè)可在第三學(xué)期使用。具體做法參見教師參考書和相關(guān)課件。
