諺語，是人們在生活經驗的基礎上創作出來的，言簡意賅。因此特點，諺語常常被運用與文章中，使語言活潑風趣，增強文章的表現力。細讀考研文章，不難發現諺語的應用。以往年的考研真題為例:
 
例. Which of the following proverbs is closest to the message the text tries to convey?
【A】”Faith will move mountains.”
【B】”One reaps what one sows.”
【C】”Practice makes perfect.”
【D】”Like father, like son.”
這道試題就是用諺語來考查考生對文章主題的理解。從中不難看出，諺語的掌握是不可或缺的。在此基礎上，總結了以下諺語，供考生學習。

1. It never rains but it pours.  不雨則已，一雨傾盆

意為：一件倒霉事后面總跟著一連串的麻煩。

2. Waste not, want not.  儉以防匱

意為：如對使用自己的東西精打細算，就什么也不會缺。

11. Gold can't be pure and man can't be perfect. 金無足赤,人無完人

12. Where there is life, there is hope. 留得青山在,不怕沒柴燒

13. A real man never goes back on his words.一言既出，駟馬難追

14. A bad beginning makes a bad ending. 不善始者不善終

15. A bad workman always blames his tools. 不會撐船怪河彎

16. A bird in the hand is worth than two in the bush. 一鳥在手勝過雙鳥在林

17. A cat may look at a king. 貓也可以打量國王
 
意為:人人平等

18. A fall into a pit, a gain in your wit. 吃一塹，長一智

19. All that ends well is well.  結果好，就一切都好

20. A good beginning is half done.  良好的開端是成功的一半
 
21. Faith will move mountains.  精誠所至，金石為開
 
22. One reaps what one sows. 種瓜得瓜，種豆得豆
 
23. Practice makes perfect.   熟能生巧
 
24. Like father, like son.   有其父必有其子

25. A rolling stone gathers no moss. 滾石不生苔
  
意為：朝三暮四，沒有定性的人，永遠不會有大成就。
