2020考研英語一大綱解析Text 4：并列結構巧解推理題

有的同學喜歡通讀全文后然后憑剛剛通讀完的感覺答題，這點只對文章主旨題或作者態度題可行，然而在考察細節的推理題中則很容易選錯。以2020年考研英語一大綱題型示例中的Text 4的第37題為例：

But the cult of the authentic and the personal, “doing our own thing”, has spelt the death of formal speech, writing, poetry and music. While even the modestly educated sought an elevated tone when they put pen to paper before the 1960s, even the most well regarded writing since then has sought to capture spoken English on the page. Equally, in poetry, the highly personal, performative genre is the only form that could claim real liveliness. In both oral and written English, talking is triumphing over speaking, spontaneity over craft.

37. The word “talking” (Para. 3) denotes

A. modesty.

題干中出現了 denote，可以判斷出這是道推理題。如果先看這道題的題干和4個選項，憑借常識或通讀全篇后的回憶會覺得每個選項都有道理。甚至在第3段中，每個單詞都能在原文找到對應，比如選項A中的modesty 對應本段中的modestly，選項B的personality 在本段中可以找到 personal，選項C的liveliness 則直接選取了本段的原詞。

正確的做法是根據題干關鍵詞“talking”定位到原文最后一句。In both oral and written English是介賓短語作狀語，而后面的”talking is triumphing over speaking, spontaneity over craft”則是由逗號分開的兩個并列句，且”spontaneity over craft”省略了謂語成分，完整應該為" spontaneity is triumphing over speaking”。在這個并列復句中，talking is triumphing over speaking 和 spontaneity (is triumphing )over craft 構成一個類比的關系，over前后構成對比關系。也就是說 talking 對應著 spontaneity 而 speaking 對應著 craft的關系。不知道spontaneity 也沒關系，可以根據craft (精巧工藝)猜測反義詞，而informality 也正是對spontaneity的同義替換。
